A perfect addition to my library!

This high-quality book is, quite simply, stunning. On my first pass all I could do was look at the gorgeous full-page, full-color illustrations on almost every single page. When I went back and started to read, I realized I had to set time aside so I could savor every space-travel adventure that accompanies each illustration.
Anderson not only captures real space and time in his exquisite graphics, but his talent as a storyteller is equal to the task of supporting each image. Whether the reader is traveling through space to imaginary, but possible, planets, or traveling through time on our own mothership, Anderson's depictions of the night sky are stellar-no pun intended. Then, to learn that the stars are in the ACTUAL POSITIONS relative to space and time adds to the awe that these images inspire. To top it all off, the pictures are accompanied by stories that take the reader far, far away, either through space, or time, or both.
It is not a hurry-up-and-read-it book. This coffee-table treat is one to read by the fire, with a cup of hot tea and a cat on the lap. Thank you, Mr. Anderson. You just made my Christmas shopping very easy.

Capturing Wonder - with Scientific Accuracy

This book does something hard to do: It captures the "sense of wonder" that drives many of us to an interest in science, without playing fast and loose with facts. And it has one of the niftiest organizing concepts I've seen in an astronomy book: what would the stars look like from other planets, other planetary systems? What would major astronomical events have looked like in the past? The future?
The author and artist, Erik Anderson, has done a magnificent job. He has produced a genuinely "fun" book. This may qualify as a book for the whole family . . . or, ideally, for that hard-to-buy-for smart youngster, as I speculate on my blog:[...] . . .
The text is crisp, excellent; the pictures are, ahem, "out of this world."

A book that I have been waiting for years.

This is the kind of book that I have been waiting for a while. Vistas of Many World is an interesting journey through the close environment of our sun in space and also in time. Each page of the book includes an artistic view of a place, most of the time a nearby extra-solar planet, plus a short description. The drawing also contains a visualization of the sky as seen from the surface. The text attached to the image discusses what is known about the planetary system and gives to the reader some clues about the stars in the sky as seen from the extra-solar planet. The sky and the star colors and brightness are based on a 3D reconstruction of the nearby environment of our sun, so should be accurate.
The illustrations are superb, the book is well written and the topic is fascinating. I strongly recommend this book to anybody with an interest in the study of exoplanets and our galaxy.
