A great read!

Spanish is my first language, and I had the pleasure of finding this book through my friends. It is one of the most beautifully written and wonderful novels I've read. Although it is short, the novel makes up for that in substance. I guarantee you will enjoy reading this! Hopefully the English translation is on its way. Five big stars for this one!

El talento de la autora Gabriela de Fuentes se demuestra dandonos a conocer la vida de una persona ordinaria y tranquila, que vivio una vida sencilla, en los anos 50, en Acapulco.

Me encanto este libro, lo lei todo completo de una vez, no pude dejarlo, ni siquiera para cenar.

El final fue muy emocionante, y sorprendente. Nos da a saber hasta que punto puede llega una persona por amor.

Recomiendo este libro y me gustaria leer mas libros de esta autora.

Espero la traduccion al Ingles, ya que vivo en el area Metropolitan de Washington y la mayoria de mis amigas solo ablan Ingles.

About the Author

Jean Aitchison is Emeritus Rupert Murdoch Professor of Language and Communication at the University of Oxford. She is the author of numerous books on language, including Language Change: Progress or Decay? (Third Edition, 2001), The Word Weavers: Newshounds and Wordsmiths (2007), Aitchison's Linguistics (Seventh Edition, 2010), and The Articulate Mammal (Routledge Classics Edition, 2011).

Interesting

I can't say I read this book by my own free will--it was required for a course I was taking--but it was certainly an interesting read. For someone interested in the subject, this is probably a great and fascinating book; but for an engineering student with no zeal for linguistics (such as myself), this isn't something you'll want to simply pick up and read on your own. While it was certainly informative and thought-provoking, I generally found myself feeling that the subject was not helpful for achieving my own personal goals, which significantly lessened the experience.

In short, for those interested in languages or linguistics, this would be an excellent book to read; however, I cannot say the same for those who do not have any interest in the subject.

About the Author
Jerry Forristal is the ninth of eleven children. One of Eleven is his story. Jerry received his B.A. from the University of Kansas in 1989 and his M.A. from Duke University in 1991. In 1993, after publishing in leading Sociology journals and declining an offer as a Professor of Sociology from Temple University, he joined a small marketing research group within AT&T's Bell Labs. He then worked for Hallmark Greeting Cards for seven years, including a two year assignment in the Netherlands, before joining the ad agency, Leo Burnett, in London. During his career, he has led many high profile, strategic projects for leading Fortune 500 companies, including P&G, PepsiCo, MillerCoors, Hershey's, McDonalds, Kellogg's, Walt Disney, and Johnson & Johnson. Jerry currently works in New York as a Global Account Director for Kantar, the consumer insights arm of WPP. Raw, Genuine and a Good Story

In today's world it seems like if a story isn't filled with gadgets, the Internet and some major conflict between two countries, then you don't have a good book. Interestingly, One of Eleven has all those elements, just in terms of the 1970s-80s. Gadgets are our toys of yesteryear...supplemented with strong imagination. Communication is via a thrown punch, a look or just good old fashion words. Conflicts are those we faced each day...a teacher, a bully, a sibling or just the dynamics of being a teenager.

Mr. Forristal captures his reader's attention from the first paragraph, pulling us into the world he faced as a child struggling to create his own identity. He is very open in expressing the dynamics he experienced, thereby creating a sense of character trust as you eagerly page through the book. His story reminds one of his/her childhood while giving you a view into "that kid with garage sale shirts" and approach to life. Thanks Mr. Forristal for the insight, fresh approach and simply put, a very good story.

A Profound yet entertaining read

In his memoir, "One of Eleven," Jerry Forristal takes the reader through a journey of his first 19 years of life. In many respects, Mr. Forristal depicts the many obstacles in his life, and his unique and successful attempts at overcoming each of these difficulties. He tells the story of his ultimately successful attempts at overcoming poverty, and ulltimately obtaining an M.A. degree in sociology from Duke University. In addition, Mr. Forristal engages the reader as he describes his interelationships with his 10 siblings and the psychodynamics of his family.

At times, hilarious and at times quite poignant, the author's memoir always seems to simulate the reader as he describes his life experiences -- both positive and negative. Yet, according to Forristal, he consistently finds the strength to overcome numerous obstacles, one by one as he ultimately "finds his way" forward.

If you're interested in a relatively light, but inspiring (and feel good) read, I would absolutely suggest that you take the time to read "One of Eleven," a poignant tale about "finding your way."

Jerry's book is inspiring, funny and heart warming. A "secret" life only he could feel and experience, to share it with the world, those who know him and those who don't. Inspiring for the people, young and old, "lost" in life and for those who forgot what it was like when they were lost. Jerry exposes his heart, soul and feelings while sharing the trials and tribulations and the triumphs and joys he experienced growing up, adding humor to his personal story. It truely is inspiring....a must read!!!

Great book

I really enjoyed reading the Cowboy's Designer Baby. The premise was very interesting. First what would Brady do to have a child and then how would things work for him and the lady he selected.
Second how would Jasmine deal with her schooling and her plans for the future and how having a baby would impact them.
The book is a great quick read and left me wanting to know more about what happens to the characters in the future. Alexis Gold has written another wonderful story and fans of romance will not be disappointed if they purchase the book.

What a beautiful story of a rich

What a beautiful story of a rich, single man who wanted to leave his legacy to a child of his own without being married. All of the thought process and actual planning materialized into a surogate of his choosing . Se became pregnant, moved into his home after she fall and was injured and they eventually fell in love and so the story goes and they marry and live happily ever after. Well written. I read the story in one sitting.

This was a very enjoyable story. Brady and Jasmine were meant to be.together. They had the same goals in life and both worked hard to achieve it. Brady was shy and had a hard time talking to women. He felt that he would never find true love. He decided he wanted to have an heir and that was when he meet Jasmine. She needed money for student loans and thought being a surrogate was the right answer. This is a great read.

Don't pass this up.

I picked this up hoping it would be a great book because the book description on the back seemed so good. Well, I'm not disappointed! This is a witty, friendly, funny book that I'd recommend to anyone who wants a good laugh or to anyone who loves chick lit. Plus the 'entries' that Charlize 'Charlie' makes in her notebook for her great grand niece ring true in so many ways.

I'm really hoping this author will release another book. She has such great talent.

What a joy to read

I hesitated about buying this book. I don't know why. This is a wonderful, funny, cute read.

Our main heroine gets herself into all kinds of strange situations but is so well written that you actually buy it. The best aspect of this book is the wonderful humour. The author takes some weird situations and makes them absolutely funny - even if they are over the top at times (an elephant?).

My favorite moments are between our main character and her boss, movie star Drew. The author made the decision to write him as a movie star, but without alot of the characteristics that you would expect to find in movie star characters in other books. You kind of like Drew even if he is a tad "spacey".

Everyone in this book is written just a little off center, but the storyline is cute and the author makes this book a greal gem.

I always know I am going to like a book when I don't want to put it down and when I have to - I keep looking forward to picking it back up.

I could go on and on about the characters and storyline - but I won't do it justice so go and buy this one.

I don't know...

Unlike usually it took me a long time to get through this book. The cover, the title, even the premise has so much potential and even the story line throughout isn't bad at all. It's just... Charlie and her friends were never very well developed. I never really felt for Charlie, for her plight. To me, the best developed character was Drew and he was only secondary. The entire book was just kind of blah. I followed it, but I never really got passionate about it.

Unlike Emily Giffin's books this one just didn't pull me in. The story was good but the characterization never pulled me in, it seemed like nothing big ever happened. And there were some really cliche tacky lines/dialogue here and there. Not bad just nothing special, nothing I'd re read unless I wanted to reevaluate my opinion.

Read it, sure, but don't be surprised if it's just a little whatever. I prefer Emily Giffin's books.

During the dark days of 1943 in Japanese occupied Peking a small community of German speaking people who didn't associate in any way with the remainder of the German community there congregated occasionally in the home of Wilhelm Haas, explains Hellmut Willhelm in the preface of this book. The members of the group were almost entirely unfamiliar with the I Ching.
In their midst, however, was one of the foremost non-Chinese I Ching scholars alive, Wilhelm. Hass asked him to give a few lectures to the group to help them understand the history, use and concepts behind the I Ching.
As an introduction to the Book of Changes by a master these eight lectures cover an enormous amount of ground in an easy, understandable way. The translations from German to English by Cary F. Baynes are, as always, excellent.
I'd recommend this book as an accompanyment to the Baynes or Richard John Lynn translations of the Book of Changes, certainly. But for anyone using the I Ching in any translation, whatever the level of scholarship, this book will probably be a source of useful information you didn't have before.

About the Author
Tore Wizelius is a writer and journalist who has authored five books on wind power. He was the Sweden correspondent for Windpower Monthly during the 1990s and has been a lecturer on wind power at Gotland University since 1998.

Gide for practical work in wind project development

Very useful book. Not only for students at different levels, but also for the engineers working in wind project development. This book is recommended also for persons living in countries with non developed wind power to get the information how to support the idea on wind power introduction.
Comparative analysis of the measures that act as a driving force or a barrier for wind power development is of practical importance. The discussion on the environment impact of wind power projects is detailed as well the spatial planning recommendation.

Simple and to the point to help explain complex terms and information to simplerer audiences

When I ordered this book and looking at the price I was skeptical as to whether it would deliver the value it proposed. After reviewing and reading it is a great addition to Paul Gipe's book wind power. Paul Gipe's book goes into heavy reading and detail which is super, for for a summary book and helping fill in the gaps and present information to your employees and audiences in a simple real practical terms this book is a super and great asset. There are great pictures, tables and illustrations. Additionally, it is well written and easy to comprehend.
