Excellent book for learning the gymnastics-style straight handstand

This is definitely the book I wish I'd had when I started teaching myself the handstand over 5 years ago. A lot of people writing handstand books do not have handstands that I want to emulate. In my case, I'm after the straight-back gymnastics style handstand, which Yuri teaches from the beginning. Yuri has a great handstand, and for this type of thing you really want to learn from an experts.

One of the many challenges in learning the handstand is that there are so many ways to do it. e.g. Start with the arched handstand or the straight handstand? Learn to walk on your hands first before standing on them? How to get into the handstand? Head position? Shoulders extended or packed? Flat hands or 3 points of contact? Toes pointed or not? Squeeze everything tight or be relaxed? What should be compromised if you don't have enough mobility for the perfect handstand? It's not that any particular approach is necessarily better than any other, but to make any progress, one has to choose one approach. Personally, I spent years hopping around from method to method, never mastering any of them. Yuri's book tells you what to do, and he's an expert I'm comfortable trusting.

The book gives a very nice series of exercises starting from the very beginning of understanding the handstand position and alignment with exercises on the floor, gradually working towards inversion (being upside down against a wall), and going all the way through kicking up to a free-standing handstand. One of the most valuable parts of the book for me is a series of exercises for training many different types of balance corrections in isolation. I'd seen some of them before, but most were new to me.

The only caveat I'd give about the book is that it doesn't have too much guidance or comforting words for somebody who wants to try a handstand without having full shoulder mobility / perfect handstand alignment. I think you can follow the book's exercises anyway, but it would be nice for that to be addressed directly.

I highly recommend this book. I think it would have massively accelerated my learning of the handstand if I had it at the beginning, and even now I'm finding it extremely useful for increasing the consistency of my handstand.

Fast sexy start

This was such a fast but sexy start to the series. I liked the fact that Tre was so young and innocent cause that made him more appealing to me. Shea was an interesting character-I wanted to know more about her past and why she ran but I feel that all that baggage will come in good time. I was surprised that the story was that fast-paced but it was good. The attraction and tension can definitely be felt as you were reading it. The only thing that I wanted more was a little more story besides all the action but I still thought it was pretty good.

Peter L. Newton

Peter L. Newton gravitated toward computers at a young age. As his appetite for technology grew, web applications were his first exploration into development. The excitement of programming is what kept Peter diving further into different software designs and programming patterns. He is a self-taught programmer who has spent countless hours in reverse engineering assembly and arm instruction executables just for the joy of learning. Peter has several years of experience as a web developer, software developer, database architect, and hardware technician. Jie Feng

Jie Feng is originally from Jiaxing, China. He is currently a PhD candidate at Columbia University, specializing in machine learning and computer vision. He has conducted research on problems ranging from detecting and recognizing objects in images and retrieving similar images from large-scale databases to understanding human behavior in videos. Jie's work has been published at top international conferences, and he has been granted a U.S. patent. He is also a software designer and developer and has worked at Microsoft, Amazon, and Adobe. Fails spectacularly at teaching

While the author(s) of this book seem extremely well-versed in the unreal engine, they are significantly worse at teaching the material they cover. More often then not, this book makes the mistake of "showing" you how to program a task instead of "teaching" you how to do it. While I can dutifully copy the AI behaviors detailed in the lessons, I often find myself no closer to understanding how and why these behaviors work. A standard lesson looks something like this:

1. Pull from the Array Element pin and search for Cast to MyCharacter.
2.Then, pull from the As My Character pin and search for Get Controller.
3.Get the class of the controller using the Get Class node.
4.Compare the Hero class with the Class = Class node.
5.Pull from the return of Equal and create a Branch node.
etc...

While this might seem all well and good, the "teaching" aspect of this book completely falls apart when you realize that there are no explanations as to why I should use many of the nodes. Why do I need to use the Class = Class node? What is logically going on in this blueprint (yes, they don't supply answers for questions this basic)? If, when looking at this example, you find yourself asking any questions, you will be sorely disappointed by the lack of answers. While the authors of this book might know everything there is to know about Unreal, they certainly don't know how to teach it. A plethora of typos, missing steps, and incorrect words only compounds on the frustration.

All told this book seems like a rushed cash grab. While the pages look like slides you would see in a programming class, there is no teacher to guide you through the process.

Power book for better games.

Unreal engine is a powerful AAA cross platform game engine that enable you to develop high quality games, this book teach me how to use blueprints visual tool to build my game logic, this is amazing how much you can achieve, Unreal already have a great set of tools that provide common AI, this book explain some of them, enabling me to apply their in my game easily without any line of code, I like to code, but to implement AI only in code I would have to spend much more time and effort. The book starts from foundations of AI in game development, after that you will start from basic techniques, teaching how these features work, giving you the idea of where to use it and the possibilities that you achieve combining these features with other to create more complex interesting behaviors like movements, randomness, probabilities, behavior trees, sensors, path followings and others. This can make your game so much fun and immersive, your players will have a much better gaming experience and you be proud of your work. This book has a great structure and if you never worked with game AI programming in Unreal Engine you will feel comfortable as you read this because the author has explained almost from scratch all the concepts and techniques, I think this way you learn for sure and be able to extend what you know, the game AI is almost limitless.

About the Author
Tristan Gooley is the New York Times–bestselling author of The Natural Navigator, The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs, and How to Read Water. His passion for the subject of natural navigation stems from his hands-on experience. He has led expeditions in five continents, climbed mountains in Europe, Africa, and Asia, sailed small boats across oceans, and piloted small aircraft to Africa and the Arctic. He is the only living person to have both flown solo and sailed single-handedly across the Atlantic, and he is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and the Royal Geographical Society. Prior to setting up The Natural Navigator school, Gooley gained extensive experience in the travel industry, and he is currently Vice Chairman of Trailfinders. I read Gooley's "Lost Art of Reading Nature's Signs" which I loved. It is informative and entertaining

Only partway through, but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I pre-ordered this book based on reviews from Britain. While waiting for the US release, I read Gooley's "Lost Art of Reading Nature's Signs" which I loved. It is informative and entertaining, covering a wide variety of topics from wild places like Borneo, to cities. I was then really looking forward to "How to Read Water" but was unsure if an entire book on one topic would be as riveting. Halfway through and I can honestly say, it is. I'm torn between wanting to read more and more, to wanting to read and reread a section deeply and see if I can find examples. Many examples can be found far from oceans or large bodies of water, so this is not just a book for people on shorelines. The author's knowledge, excitement and joy of learning and teaching new things really comes through in his writing.

Hardcover book has a nice, compact size (5.5" x 7.6" x 1.3")

A must-read book if you are a "water person" or find yourself on or near ponds, lakes, rivers. or oceans. There is a nice "Table of contents" and an Index. More importantly, there are numerous pictures to illustrate the different water conditions observed and discussed by the author.

I recommend getting the hardcopy version (rather than Kindle version) to more easily jump back and forth between text and pictures. The hardcover book has a nice, compact size (5.5" x 7.6" x 1.3").

But most of all, the book has an easy-reading style and covers many interesting topics.

About the Author
As a pediatrician, writer, wife, and mother, Perri Klass has demonstrated how medicine is integral to the health of families and communities, and how doctors themselves struggle to balance the conflicting needs of profession, self, and family. As medical director of Reach Out and Read, she encourages other pediatricians to foster pre-reading skills in their young patients. Not a great copy

I have been reading CM's volumes online for free, and thought that it would be much better on the eyes and for referencing purposes to have a hard copy.

I was rather disappointed by this copy as there were many typographical errors, which, for my personality, was very distracting!

It seemed they just printed out a copy from the internet for free and bound it together! Hmm...will not be purchasing the other volumes in this series.

About the Author

ROGER D. BLAIR is the Huber Hurst Professor of Economics at the University of Florida. His teaching and research centers mainly on issues in antitrust economics. He has published several books and many articles in economics journals and law reviews. In addition, he has provided consulting services to the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and many private parties.

DAVID L. KASERMAN is Torchmark Professor of Economics at Auburn University. He has over 25 years of experience as a professional economist and has been employed both in government agencies and academic institutions. His research interests are primarily in the fields of applied microeconmics and industrial organization
